Mark StanleyIt all started out as a symptom December 2010. Mark was wheezing really bad during the St. Jude 5k. He went to a nurse practitioner and she told him that she didn't think it was anything, but said you should have a CAT scan just to be sure. Money was tight then so we decided it was probably nothing. Almost a year went by and we met our deductible because we had our sweet baby Grayson November 2011. The following month it was time for the St. Jude race again. It wasn't until then that he realized his raspy, wheezing sound when he took deep breaths was still present, so we decided to get that CAT scan before the start of the new year. After coming back abnormal they sent him to the West Clinic for a second opinion. The doctor said it looks like it's probably just a bad infection since that's the only symptom he was having; however, he said we need to do a biopsy on a lymph node just to be sure. We came to the West Clinic a few days later to meet with the doctor for the results. As we all sat down, we were confident in the prognosis of the infection. He said, "Well, you have Lymphoma!" We were shocked! We turned and looked at our 6 week old baby and thought how could this happen? We didn't understand, we just had a baby. What was going to happen to Mark? A bunch of questions were going through our minds! We tried to listen, but we were in complete shock. Five years ago, on that very same day, I thought I was going to lose my life when I was held at gunpoint at my job. Needless to say, January 6 will never be a good day. But oh how awesome is my God! Im alive to tell this story and I know we're going to get through this! He will heal Mark! Were so thankful for our faith in Jesus. I don't know how we could go through this without being believers. The next step was to have a PET scan which would tell us what stage his cancer was in. A week went by and they revealed it was Stage 2 A. Praise the Lord! We were so happy! Two weeks later he started chemotherapy. He went back two weeks after that for his 2nd treatment, but his body had reacted negatively to the first chemo and his white count was extremely low; consequently, they had to delay treatment another week until it was normal. Now, after every treatment the next day Mark has to go back in to get a shot that keeps his white count high. This shot is very expensive! Mark has treatments every 2 weeks, 12 rounds total. If all goes as scheduled Friday June 29th will be his final treatment. We are just amazed at how God has used this to bring us closer to Him and how the love and support from our friends and family have helped us through this difficult time. Also, people from our church have been bringing us meals. Wow, that helps us out so much! I pray more than I ever have. Many people are praying for Mark and we know those prayers are working. Thank all of you so much who are following and praying for us during this journey were on!
